Brushing three times a day and coming in for biannual cleanings will address some of the pain and pinpoint problems before they become serious.

In some cases, filling a cavity or removing a tooth will be the best step forward. In some cases, sensitivity is the first sign that a small cavity has formed, and you can benefit your child by getting the issue taken care of before it becomes intense pain.

As you wait for your child's appointment, encourage him or her to gargle warm saltwater throughout the day. This can help relieve some of the pain until you can get an appointment. It's also important that you show your child how to chew on the other side of their mouth to avoid pain.
