4 Tips For Eating With Your New Dentures

Pamela Watkins

If you have recently gotten dentures, one thing that you might have noticed is that eating is a lot different. It's true that eating with dentures can be a pain, but it will become easier as you start to get used to it. Plus, if you follow these four tips, you'll find that it's not as hard as you thought it would be. Then, you can feel more comfortable and confident when you are eating your favorite foods while wearing your new dentures.

1. Cut Food Into Small Pieces

First of all, you are going to need to get used to cutting your food into smaller pieces. Munching on a large piece of food can cause your dentures to slip and slide, which can be uncomfortable and embarrassing.

2. Chew With Your Entire Mouth

You might be used to biting down on your food with your front teeth, but this won't work as well when you have dentures because they can slide. Instead, try to push food a little farther back into your mouth, so that you are biting down with more of your teeth at one time. This can help provide balance and help prevent slipping.

3. Avoid Hard Foods or Tough Meats

You'll probably find that eating hard foods and tough meats is a challenge at first. When you are still getting used to your dentures, it's a good idea to start with soft foods, like pudding and mashed potatoes. Things like red meat can be a lot harder to eat with dentures than what you are used to, so you will want to slow cook or roast them until they are very tender so that they are easier for you to eat. You will probably also want to practice eating these more challenging foods at home until you are used to it.

4. Use a Denture Adhesive

If you haven't yet used a denture adhesive, it's a good idea to try one. A good denture adhesive will help keep your dentures firmly in place, which can make it easier for you to eat your favorite foods without worrying about your dentures sliding around. Try a few brands until you find one that works for you.

Eating with dentures can be challenging at first, but once you get used to it, it will become a lot easier. To help get adjusted to the process, follow these four tips. If you do, you'll find that it's a lot easier. To find out more about dentures, speak to someone like Langford Denture Clinic.

Working With The Right Dentist

When you start shopping around for dental care, it can be hard to know who to work with. Over the years, I have gone to several different dentists, and some of my experiences have been better than others. I decided to create a website to help other people to learn more about different aspects of dental care, so that you have a better idea of what you might be looking for. It can be intimidating to choose a dentist, but by knowing what you need, you might be able to look forward to your next dental check up and receive more customized care.
